Techniques that may be used during your Signature Osteopathic Massage include Trigger Point therapy, Muscle Energy techniques and Myofascial release.

Trigger Point therapy

Trigger points are an early warning to a potential serious injury so checking for them is very beneficial.

A trigger point (TP) is a knot in a muscle that is palpable and tender. Trigger points can be caused by: training errors, inadequate preparation, poor biomechanics, muscle fatigue, poor flexibility, nutritional factors (vitamin deficiency) or psychological factors (lack of sleep, stress).

Muscle Energy techniques (METs)

This form of treatment is used to treat impaired or altered function of the musculoskeletal system, usually presented as loss of range of motion secondary to muscular inhibition.

Muscle Energy techniques (METs) are an active form of treatment (requires patient utilisation of force) that promotes muscle relaxation by activating the Golgi tendon reflex. The purpose is to gain motion that is limited by restrictions of neuromuscular structures.

Myofascial release

Fascia is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs, and skeletal structures in our body, which is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone. Injuries, stress, inflammation, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia.

Manual massage techniques for stretching the fascia are used to release bonds between fascia, muscles, and bones. They are applied with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and balancing the body.
