Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of healing, developed some 3500 years ago in China. Acupuncture is administered using very fine disposable sterile needles that are inserted into specific points along the meridians. The objective is to correct the flow of Qi and promote the bodies healing response. Acupuncture also utilises other techniques such as cupping and moxibustion.

Cupping

Cupping is a method of stimulating acupuncture points and meridians by applying suction through plastic or glass cups. A partial vacuum is created in the cups allowing them to be applied to the skin. The cups are left on for a certain amount of time, when removed they often leave behind a red mark which fades in a few days.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is often used in conjunction with acupuncture. It involves burning a cigar like stick made of the herb ‘Ai ye’, above specific acupuncture points allowing the heat to cause a warming effect in the local tissue and stimulate the acupuncture point.
